About Nora
I hold a PhD in physics and spent several years teaching high school physics and astronomy in Arlington and Montgomery County Public Schools, following experience as a teaching assistant in graduate school. Physics and astronomy aren't just my professional background — they're genuine, lifelong interests. I still observe the night sky regularly, and in 2013 I spent two weeks as crew on a Mars mission analog simulation, living and working under simulated Mars mission conditions.
I've taught students in high school and college classrooms, lab, and one-on-one settings, and I know how to meet a student wherever they're struggling — whether that's a specific unit or the subject overall. These days I'm also a parent to a toddler, which has only deepened my patience for the process of learning something new — I don't rush, and I don't get frustrated when a concept takes several tries to click. My goal in every lesson is for students to leave not just with a correct answer, but with a repeatable process they can trust on the next problem, and the test after that.

My method centers on process over memorization. Most students struggling with physics aren't missing the concepts — they're trying to hold a multi-step solution in their head at once, which is hard for anyone. I anchor each unit to one core equation (like F=ma for forces) and teach a consistent sequence of steps from there, so problem-solving becomes automatic instead of overwhelming.
A typical lesson reviews the unit's core equation, then works through practice problems of increasing difficulty, with me guiding reasoning rather than supplying answers. When time allows, I like adding a quick estimation problem to show physics as a tool for understanding the real world, not just test material.
I bring both research-level training and classroom experience: a PhD in physics, several years teaching high school physics and astronomy, and a background as an astronomy TA in grad school. Lessons suit high school and college students in algebra-based physics or astronomy, especially those who feel overwhelmed by multi-step problems.

Later, I had the opportunity to visit her classroom and meet some students when she taught dual-enrollment physics at Arlington Tech. I can confidently say that she’s a superlative teacher. Her greatest strength is in provoking students to build intuitive foundations beyond the mathematical equations; strong intuition, in my experience, is the hallmark of any successful physics student, and she knows how to bring that out in anyone regardless of where they’re starting from. She’s also highly organized and deliberate, with plenty of experience teaching both for enriched understanding and, ultimately, passing exams. I would highly recommend her for anyone looking to improve their grades and/or knowledge in the physics classroom.
