About Kristy Yvonne

I am Kristy Yvonne C. Tamala, an instructor and researcher of language, literature, and culture. I currently serve as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities under the College of Education and Social Sciences at Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSU Naawan), where I started as an Instructor I in 2015.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Filipino from Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) in 2013. To further deepen my expertise in the academia, I am currently pursuing my graduate studies for a Master of Arts degree, majoring in Literature, at the same institution. I also possess extensive experience teaching Filipino in secondary education at institutions such as Mercy Junior College and Corpus Christi Parochial School.

As a creative writer, I was fortunate to win First Prize in Editorial Cartooning during a training session for school paper advisers conducted by the DepEd Region X Division. I am also proud that my original poem titled "ANIMALandia" was selected as one of the featured pieces in the CDO Young Writers Studio 2021 Workshop. It was also successfully staged and performed by the students of DFIW, MSU-IIT in October 2019, and by the FIL102 students of MSU Naawan in 2024.

With my solid academic background in the Filipino language, creative writing, and deep connection to the local community, I bring ample skills and dedication as a researcher to thoroughly analyze and document the toponomy of place names here in Misamis Oriental.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring Filipino language, culture, and literature is student-centered and immersive, designed to help you confidently connect with the heart of the Philippines. A typical session follows the structured 4A's Lesson Plan format: we begin with a captivating Activity (such as a local riddle or song) as a warm-up, transition into an Analysis of a literary text or historical event, build a conceptual Abstraction to synthesize grammar points or cultural themes, and conclude with a practical Application where you use your new skills in real-world scenarios. What truly sets me apart as a tutor is my holistic integration of literature and cultural identity into functional language learning—ensuring that you don't just memorize rules, but truly learn to appreciate, think, and communicate like a native speaker.
