About Nazana
I am a highly knowledgeable, experienced, and engaging science teacher who believes learning should be both effective and enjoyable. I bring creativity into my lessons—for example, I can even teach ionic bonding using hula hoops—making complex concepts easier to understand and remember. I am strongly grade-orientated and will challenge and support you to achieve your full potential.
I genuinely enjoy the buzz of helping students improve their grades in science. One of my key strengths is sharing insider knowledge from my experience as an examiner for AQA and Edexcel, helping you understand exactly what exam boards are looking for and how to achieve the highest marks.
Working 1:1 is one of the most effective ways to accelerate progress. The students I have tutored consistently make more than one grade of progress in their GCSEs within just a few months. It is never too late to start tutoring—even a short period, such as two months, can lead to noticeable improvements, particularly through mastering exam techniques and refining your approach to answering questions.

Teaching Techniques & Methodology
I adopt a personalised, pupil-centred approach to teaching. At the start of GCSE and A-Level tutoring, students assess their strengths and areas for development against the exam specification, ensuring lessons are focused and grade-orientated.
My teaching is both holistic and creative, using a range of engaging, evidence-based strategies to support learning and address gaps in knowledge and skills. I prioritise building confidence alongside academic achievement, adapting my approach to suit each student’s learning style.
In my lessons, I incorporate best practices from educational research, including retrieval practice, modelling high-quality answers, explicit exam technique instruction, and interleaving topics across Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. Practical and problem-solving skills are central to my teaching philosophy, as they provide students with the tools to achieve marginal gains in external GCSE science examinations.
Lesson Length
Lessons typically last 60 minutes. Within each session, regular progress checks, including exam practice, are incorporated to monitor understanding and reinforce learning. Longer sessions can be arranged where needed, particularly for exam preparation.
Qualifications & Experience
I am a fully qualified teacher with extensive leadership experience, having worked as an Assistant Headteacher of Science and Head of Department across several diverse and challenging schools in Birmingham. In these roles, I successfully led improvements in outcomes across entire science departments.
I hold a Master’s degree in Chemistry and an MA in Education. I am also an experienced examiner of over 8 years with Edexcel, and I currently mark for AQA, giving me valuable insight into exam requirements and marking criteria.
In addition, I have over 10 years of tutoring experience, primarily online, and have worked with both private clients and tutoring organisations, including Pearson.
Who the Lessons Are For
I teach students aged 11–18, covering:
Key Stage 3 Science
GCSE Science (combined and separate)
A-Level Chemistry (specialism)
My lessons are tailored to support students of all abilities, from those needing to build foundational understanding to those aiming for top grades.
