About Laura
I am a licensed architect, and enjoyed working as a tutor when I was in college. I am choosing to work as a tutor again to earn some extra income. I am a successful professional and I am confident that I will be able to assist you in reaching your academic goals.

I love working with someone and watching that moment when they suddenly 'get it!' This is especially satisfying if a concept has been explained multiple ways before it is understood. I know that the student will carry their understanding forward and be able to use it in other situations.
I began tutoring in high school and then continued in a more formal way in college. I was also an Italian language teacher at summer camp. Since then, I have tutored on and off to earn extra income.
I have a B.A. in Italian Language and Literature from Smith College, and Master's in Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).
Throughout high school, college, and graduate school, I took many math classes including Algebra 1 and 2, Calculus 1 and 2, Logics, and Structural Engineering, among others.

Typically I like to spend a few minutes getting to know the student and building a rapport, and then quickly get into their studies. I like to start by asking what they've been working on and where they're facing challenges. I also like to work on a homework problem together and see if we can identify target areas to work on improving their comprehension.
I have mainly worked with high school students, but would be open to all age ranges. I am very comfortable working with people of all ages. I have worked with younger children as well, but it has usually been in more of a babysitting capacity.
I would probably recommend that they give the first lesson a shot and see how they feel at the end of it; was it valuable? Did they teach concepts that you would not have been able to understand without their assistance? Was the teacher knowledgeable?
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should have a thorough understanding of the subject areas they want to cover, their availability, and how they want to hold sessions (online vs. in person, how frequently, etc).
