About Harmony

Hi! My name is Harmony, and I’m a high school STEM student with a strong passion for learning, teaching, and helping other students reach their academic goals. I’m a patient, hardworking, flexible, and collaborative tutor who understands that every student learns differently.

One thing that has always frustrated me as a student is when a simple concept is made unnecessarily complicated. I believe explanations should be clear, focused, and easy to follow. I don’t like when explanations trail off, become filled with unnecessary words, or make a student feel impatient or embarrassed for not understanding something immediately. Instead, I break concepts down into manageable steps and explain them in straightforward language.

I also strongly believe in the Feynman Technique: if you truly understand something, you should be able to explain it simply in your own words. I use this approach to help students move beyond memorizing formulas or answers and actually understand why something works. Students are encouraged to explain concepts back to me, ask questions, and work through problems themselves so we can identify and strengthen any gaps in their understanding.

As a student myself, I understand many of the challenges students face in school. My goal is to create a comfortable environment where students can ask questions, make mistakes, and learn without feeling judged. I want my students to leave a lesson not only knowing how to solve a problem, but feeling confident that they can figure out the next one on their own.

I’m currently pursuing my own interests in STEM and aerospace engineering, and I’m committed to continuing my education and expanding my knowledge. I would love to help other students do the same.

My teaching approach is simple, direct, and focused on actual understanding. I avoid unnecessary filler and complicated explanations because I believe students learn best when concepts are broken down into clear, manageable steps. I use the Feynman Technique often: instead of simply memorizing a formula or answer, students explain the concept in their own words so we can identify exactly what they understand and where they need more practice.

A typical lesson starts by identifying what the student already understands, followed by a short explanation of the topic and guided examples. We then work through problems together before having the student solve similar problems independently. I adjust the difficulty depending on the student's level and focus on correcting gaps rather than rushing through material.

I tutor middle and high school students in Math, Science, and English. For Math, I can help with arithmetic, pre-algebra, Algebra I and II, Geometry, and Precalculus. For Science, I can help with general science, biology, chemistry, physics, and Earth science. For English, I can help with grammar, reading comprehension, essay writing, vocabulary, and literary analysis. I can work with students who are on-level, advanced, or simply need help strengthening specific concepts.

What sets me apart is that I am also a high school STEM student, so I understand what it is like to learn these subjects as a student rather than only approaching them from a teacher's perspective. I myself heavily dislike when teachers use a bunch of filler words, trail off, getting impatient, etc... My goal is not just to give students answers, but to help them understand how and why they got there so they can eventually solve problems independently.
