About Federico

I am a PhD researcher at UCL working with large empirical datasets — millions of transaction records in my own research, and firm-level survey panels as a visiting researcher at the Bank of England. Before the PhD I spent two years at Frontier Economics producing statistical evidence for competition cases.

UCL MSc and MRes with Distinction, Warwick BSc with First Class Honours, over 400 hours of teaching including as a Teaching Assistant at UCL.

I work daily in R, Stata and Python, and I teach SPSS. More relevant than any of that: I teach statistics to people whose degree is not statistics, and who never expected to need it until a dissertation required one.

Most of the students I work with are in psychology, sociology, education, public health, business or politics. They are competent researchers with a real question, and they have hit a wall because their methods training covered which test to run without ever explaining why, and because nobody taught them the software. That is a teaching failure, not an ability problem, and it is straightforwardly fixable.

I teach the reasoning and the software together, on your data and your research question. You leave each session with output you understand and can defend in a viva, not with results someone else generated.

What I cover:
- Choosing the right test: what your data structure and question actually permit, and what they rule out
t-tests, ANOVA, chi-square, non-parametric alternatives and when the assumptions have failed
- Regression: linear, logistic, multilevel and mixed models, ordinal and count outcomes
- Factor analysis, reliability, scale construction and validation
- Survey data: weighting, missing data, attrition
- Longitudinal and repeated-measures designs
- Power analysis and sample size justification, before you collect rather than after
- Software from the beginning: SPSS, R, Stata — installation, data import, syntax, output
- Reporting to APA or your discipline's convention, including tables and figures
- Preparing to defend your methods under examination

No prior statistics or coding background assumed. I also work with academics and professionals returning to quantitative methods after years away, and with researchers preparing methods sections for publication.

IMPORTANT: To be clear before you get in touch: I teach analysis, I do not do it for you. I will not write your dissertation or run your regressions on your behalf — that is academic misconduct and it puts your degree at risk. What I will do is get you to the point where you understand and can defend every line of your own code and every number in your own results - i.e. you understand what choices to take in the empirical strategy and why.
