About Karen
I am a Director of Business Development/Senior Software Engineer for a small organization. I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a M.S and B.A in Mathematics. Also, I have a M.S. from George Washington University in Information Management. I truly enjoy mathematics, and I am always delighted to see others energized by mathematics. I have managed software organizations, developed software applications, and tutored individuals of different ages in mathematics.

My teaching method is connecting math to other learning areas and encourage math talk. My goal is to get information about what students are thinking and use that to guide my instruction, as opposed to just telling them information and asking them to parrot things back. Instead of seeking a specific answer, I want to have deeper discussions to figure out what a student knows and understands. “True learning happens a lot around talking and doing math—not just drilling.” I want my students to truly understand the concept.
