About James
I have always had a great passion for mathematics and always enjoyed helping others to understand the intricacies of math. I have been a tutor for various mathematical subjects at a university level and had many students excel under my tutelage. My approach is centered on the student, understanding their needs, goals, and personal approach to learning. I then adapt my teaching to their learning. With two degrees in mathematics, both a bachelor's and master's degree, I have a deep understanding of the subject area, which helps to facilitate teaching students. Anyone can learn mathematics, it’s just a matter of communicating the subtleties.

It's been my experience that when both learning and teaching mathematics, everyone is different. Having an open dialogue with students about what works and what doesn't, and where they are struggling to understand something and finding the knowledge gaps that may be present in their background, is the most effective way to help students achieve their goals and fullest potential.
As lessons will be online, it will be of great benefit for students to have either a tablet with a stylus that they are comfortable working on and can use to share their screen, or a document camera/webcam that can be positioned to see the students workbook as they are working. Actively observing a student solving problems goes a long way finding solutions that are adapted to the way they work.

James at his core is kind and sensitive to everyone around him and has an outstanding record of academic achievement. He has both the knowledge and temperament to make learning an engaging and rewarding process. In the many years I have known him, while adventuring through video games, he has never once made me feel less than and always celebrated the smallest successes. I have no doubt any student would be delighted to learn from him and come away with more confidence and understanding of mathematics.
James and I have known each other for over 15 years, during which time, he's proven himself to be a reliable, kind and trustworthy person. His help with tricky (for me!) problems over years has been very much appreciated and I have no doubt he'd be an excellent tutor.
James was a wonderful tutor, calm and engaging, he was able to guide me through challenging topics, using simple terms to help explain complex concepts. I would highly recommend James to anyone looking for help with Maths
