Hi! I'm a recent high school graduate with hands-on tutoring experience as a paid tutor for the Viamonde School Board. I specialize in Math and offer personalized tutoring sessions designed to fit each student's unique learning style. Having been a student myself, I know how important it is to learn in a way that makes sense to you. That’s why I make lessons not just about the subject, but also about your interests and strengths. As a tutor, I believe individualization is key to effective learning. When I was a student, I found that adding a personal touch to material—whether through jokes, songs, or mnemonics—made it much easier to understand and remember. I carry this approach into my tutoring, tailoring lessons to each student’s interests, learning style, and ability level.
Another important aspect I’ve noticed is the pace of learning. In most classrooms, students are expected to keep up with a standardized pace that can sometimes feel too fast, leaving them struggling to catch up and even doubting their own abilities. This often leads to frustration and a lot self-doubt. This is where I excel—I slow down the pace to ensure each student absorbs the material at their own speed. I break down complex concepts into manageable steps, allowing them to build a strong foundation and feel confident in their understanding.
A typical lesson with me begins with a brief review or mini-test to check how well the previous material has been absorbed. This allows us to pinpoint any areas that may need more attention before moving forward. Then, when introducing new topics, I focus on breaking them down into smaller, more manageable parts. I start with a clear, general explanation, then carefully unpack each step, ensuring the student fully grasps each concept before moving on. If needed, I follow up with a personalized strategy, my go-to is a mnemonic or relatable example, to let it sink in. We finish with practice exercises based on the student’s level, and I offer support wherever needed.
I work best with students aged 13 to 18, as I have experience working with teens from working for Viamonde and understand how to keep them engaged while building their confidence in both math and writing. But as an older sibling, I also have a ton of experience with teaching children under 13.
