About Boyd

I’ve always lived with the belief that education is one of the most important things that often gets overlooked in our modern society. As a younger tutor, I’ve grown up in a world where Google and ChatGPT have become the new normal, and thought, creativity, and critical thinking are suffering because of it. I’ve always had a passion and talent for education, and it is even more emboldened by our modern society’s approach (or lack thereof) to providing the best education for each student. I believe that learning is a skill to be developed, and that each person learns differently. I also believe that learning is important, no matter your age, income, or background. It is my mission to make the world smarter, and that mission starts here. Care to join me?

I have always had the belief that everyone leans differently. My first teaching position was rather unique; I volunteered at local summer camps to teach young kids how to solve Rubik’s Cubes and similar puzzles. It was there I learned a few crucial things. First and most importantly, everyone learns and understands the world differently. Where one person might see a pattern of same-colored stickers on a Rubik’s Cube that resemble a fish, others see that individual corner pieces are in a specific orientation. If someone doesn’t understand what I’m trying to teach, I try a different approach or explanation instead of giving it up or trying to drill it into them. Second, teaching works better when you’re seen as a peer rather than an authority figure. When I volunteered at the summer camps, I was still a teenager. I often interacted more personally with the kids I was teaching, telling jokes and trying to be more of a friend than a mentor. People are naturally more receptive to information from those they see as equals than from authority figures. Third and finally, not enough people see learning as fun. Growing up with moderate ADHD, I saw school as a chore because the way I learned best wasn’t supported. It was only through my high school calculus teacher that I was able to fully realize my potential. When you’re able to learn to the best of your ability, you tend to enjoy it more, such was the case with me, and I soon became the go-to person to ask for help in that calculus class. Ever since, I’ve been doing my best to make sure everyone learns in a way that most benefits them, providing them with the most enjoyable experience while treating them as an equal.
