About Mark
I hold a BS in Chemistry and Mathematics from Marietta College in 1980. In the 70's and 80's it was considered one of the top liberal arts colleges in Ohio. I received an M.S. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame. After working for a few years in a pharmaceutical firm, I returned to graduate school and received dial Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry and Computational Biochemistry from Duke University, a top 10 grad school in chemistry. Afterwards I became an a research professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After 7 years I became a researcher with the US Army. After 14 years, I left and embarked on a teaching career in Asia. I taught mathematics from grade school through high school over 4 years in Thailand. I moved to Korea and taught AP Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Quantum Mechanics at an international school for 4.5 years. Those nearly 8 years were the most satisfying years of my life. I have since returned to the States. I miss teaching and believe this will offer me the opportunity to return to my labor of love - teaching.

I believe that teaching is as individual as the student who wants to learn. However, there is a key common component that unifies learning and teaching - an appreciation of knowledge. I believe my many years of experience has let me appreciate the diverse nature of students' search for knowledge.As I have taught grade school through university, I can devise lessons for any level. I have a deep grounding in the sciences, mathematics and computers/computer programming. My tutoring sessions can be tailored to any level.
