About Richard
I started my career in physics as an undergraduate where my greatest interest was in experimental physics. I assisted in research projects in spectroscopy, solid state physics, and lasers. As a graduate student, I made the transition to theoretical plasma physics which led to a career in fusion research which was very interesting and exciting until the budgets were drastically cut. Teaming with a few of my colleagues as a small business we succeeded in using our knowledge of plasma physics to supply key technologies in the semiconductor, energy, medical, and advanced materials markets.

I started teaching fellow students in math and physics as an undergraduate and later as a teaching assistant in graduate school. Students have always told me that I can explain what appears to be a very complex concept in a way that they can understand. I know when I have succeeded when they ask, “Is it that all there is to it?”
In my experience, tutoring works best if after attending class you review the material covered and do as much of the homework assignments as you can, so you are able to identify the concepts that are causing the most difficulty. Physics and math are wide ranging subjects, and it is important to be specific about what you need help so we can make the best use of our time together.
