About Nguyễn

My name is Hieu Nguyen. I was trained to be a professional teacher in Vietnam. My certificate allows me to teach math to students aged between 6 and 18.

During high school, math was my favorite subject and I also got a third prize in the mathematics olympiad (province level). This made me decide to pursue a degree in mathematics pedagogy.

What I find most important in teaching math is the practical approach. Students should be shown the application of math in the reality and the stories behind each formula as well as mathematicians.

Learning mathematics is like an exploration journey. Nothing can be compared to the feeling of victory when completing a hard math problem or exploring the nature of the theorem you are used with. As you understand mathematics concepts deeply, you can see them everywhere surrounding you. That is what makes this subject interesting instead of boring formulas and definitions.

About the lesson

I offer lessons at different levels: IGCSE, A-level, IB, SSAT, SAT, math for college students.
I had 2 years experience as a math teacher, teaching assistant and tutor. During internship, I had experience working at public high schools in Ho chi Minh city, Vietnam. I also spent 2 years working at a private education company called TOIDM Education in Vietnam. I was a teaching assistant and teacher teaching mental math for primary students. Moreover, I was a tutor in math in English for students from international schools. My major task was to tailor curriculums which were independent of my students' one at school but could greatly enhance students' understanding in math and their academic performance. With this approach, one of my students who is studying at a high school in the US always stayed at top 3 of his grade.
Each lesson will last 90-120 minutes which includes reviewing previous lessons, teaching new theory and illustrate examples, doing and checking exercises. I always spend time checking homework and giving advice to students. Doing homework is compulsory so that I can know how students are understanding. After each lesson, there will be a diary representing students' performance and advice for them.
