About Ruth
Hello, my name is Ruth and I am a premed student and a psychology graduate who has experience in tutoring different age groups from middle school to college students.
My hobbies include singing, dancing, eating good food, traveling when I can afford it and listening to different genres of music especially Afrobeat and RnB.
I recently graduated from college with honors and I served as a teaching assistant for 3 years where I tutored students in General psychology, Cognitive psychology, Developmental psychology, Ethology and Statistics. I tutored in Statistics for about 2 years which gave me useful skills in data analysis and research methods. I also used my statistic skills in my cancer biology research internship where I had to present my lab findings.
My premed background exposed me to teaching experience in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics which were one of my best science classes during my time in college. In college, I helped my classmates in these premed classes which also helped me in reinforcing the material.
I also volunteered to tutor middle school students in Mathematics and Reading in a tutoring program organized for community members around my college. The students who I tutored had great improvements in their reading skill and this experience was extremely rewarding for me because not only did I teach and bond with these students but I saw a growth in their confidence in Reading and Mathematics.
Fun facts about me: I was a dancer on a dance team in college for 3 years.
I co-organized two memorable African Fashion Show events at my college in 2022 and 2023. So, I love dancing and I love Fashion and beauty. These were two aspects of my life as a student that made my college experience worthwhile and amazing.

My lessons are crafted to fit your learning style and capture all your weak areas while improving your confidence in your desired subject material. I help you believe in yourself in your most difficult subjects and succeed beyond expectations.
I also incorporate various reinforcement styles that I have used for my students over the years like active recall, mnemonics, personalized examples with things you enjoy engaging in (e.g. gaming, food, beauty and so on), and effective spaced out study styles to maximize your study sessions.
A typical lesson plan will involve a quick check-in to know how you are doing because I love to make sure that my students are comfortable to talk to me about their struggles or learning anxieties.
Then, we will identify areas that need work or focused study. I will then go through the material with you.
Solve examples with my student as they apply to the subject material (working my way up from easy to complex concepts).
Test my student on the material and ask them to walk me through their thought process.
Offer corrections to places that were not properly explained.
Re-do new problems similar to missed ones.
Review the entire concept at the end of the lesson and ask my student for feedback on how well they understood the material and how confident they feel about it.
