About James
I am a PhD-qualified physicist and professional scientist with a strong background in maths, physics, programming and psychology. I hold a First-Class MPhys in Theoretical Physics and a PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics, and I currently work as a Fluid Dynamics Scientist, using maths, coding and numerical modelling to solve real-world research problems.
I have always been drawn to new challenges and enjoy learning across different subjects. That curiosity is a big part of how I teach: I like getting to the root of why something works and finding the explanation that makes it click for each individual student.
My aim is not just to help students get the right answer, but to help them become more confident, independent problem-solvers who feel comfortable tackling subjects they may previously have found intimidating.

My lessons focus on helping students understand *why* a method works, rather than simply memorising steps. I break difficult topics into manageable pieces, work through examples together, and gradually build towards solving problems independently. I adapt the pace and explanation style to each student, and I am always happy to approach a topic from a different angle if something is not working.
Lessons are typically one hour, though I can adapt this to the student's needs.
I have a PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics, a First-Class MPhys in Theoretical Physics, and currently work as a professional Fluid Dynamics Scientist. My teaching experience includes university-level mathematics and physics, KS3 and GCSE science, private GCSE tutoring, and Python tutoring.
I offer Maths at KS3, GCSE and A-Level, Physics from KS3 through to university level, Biology and Chemistry at KS3 and GCSE level, and Python programming from beginner through to professional standard.
My lessons are suitable for students who want extra support, exam preparation, greater confidence, or simply a deeper understanding of their subject.
