I think the best way to become better at Maths is to practice. Students should be exposed to a variety of different questions so that they're able to repeat that in the exams, but there is no point if students don't understand why they're doing these processes. It' important to make questions as simple as possible at first and make them progressively harder.
I also try and give students as much independence as possible. I believe this is the best way for students to gain confidence in Maths. One of the biggest barriers to learning is that the student doesn't see themselves as "smart" or capable of learning. One of my biggest aims is to reshape the students self image into someone who is capable of achieving top grades.
