About Annika
I'm currently an engineering student taking a gap year. I've been helping my friends in math since middle school and have been independently tutoring (Middle school math, Algebra 1, Algebra 2 Pre-Calculus, SAT prep, ACT prep and SSAT prep) since the summer of 2019. I've done some Calculus 1 tutoring at school. I competed in MathCounts in middle school (place 5th in States) and the high school level Maine Association of Math Leagues. I coached MathCounts for two years and scored a 790 on the math portion of my SAT.

When I'm tutoring I like my student to talk through what they have already tried to do, so I know what their thinking was. When working through problems, I'm not against letting them go down the wrong path so that we can reflect on and talk about why that wasn't the right technique for that particular problem. I don't like to give my students the answers but them find their way there. If I do end up telling them or walking through the whole problem, I'll ask them to explain it back to me so I know that they understood. And if they can't then we'll go through it again.
I think the most important thing with tutoring is working with the student, not just explaining how to to do to the student. I think it's also important to often ask if they have any questions.
