About Jan
Hi! I'm a 19-year-old incoming Discrete Mathematics student at the University of Warwick, who's excited about showing the fun aspects of maths and coding.
I think the two most important aspects of tutoring are to build trust with students and lead them towards finding satisfaction in their subjects – from there, everything always gets easier. And only having just left the education system myself, I truly understand the pressures and stress of exams, so I do my best to help students navigate those.
In terms of my qualifications, I've achieved an A* in A-Level Mathematics, Further Mathematics (both Edexcel), Computer Science (OCR), and Physics (AQA), as well as nine Grade 9s at GCSE. I've also won Apple's Swift Student Challenge in 2023, so I'd be happy to help computing students take their coding skills that one step further.
Thank you for reading this far! I'd be honoured to help you achieve your goals :)

Having only sat my exams recently, I understand the importance of not only teaching strong foundations but also exam technique and confidence.
From 2 years of experience tutoring maths and coding, I've found most students respond best to seeing concepts in a range of scenarios which are inspired by the student's specific exam board – but equally, all students are different and I always prioritise their individual learning style. The two primary skills I try to foster are being able to get 'unstuck' quickly without getting discouraged and presenting work in a way that achieves the most marks.
I've most experience with GCSE and A-Level Maths (Edexcel) and Computing (OCR), but I'm happy to tutor individual skills, like Python, or other exams – for example, if anyone's interested in applying for universities abroad, I have achieved 1550 (99.8th percentile) on the SAT, which is required for most US and many European universities, and I'd love to share the tips and strategies to get there.
Generally, I use Miro (both for whiteboards and video) for my lessons so that students can review all of their work and access any support materials I add in one place. I encourage the use of a tablet and pencil where possible.
