About Dominic
I was fortunate enough to attend a grammar school after passing my 11+ exams, and sat my Maths GCSE (A*) and Additional Maths FSMQ (A) in Year 11. I enjoyed Maths and chose to study it at A-Level (A), before going on to study Law at the University of Bristol, where I received a 2:1 degree.
I’ve always enjoyed Maths, but I also know how frustrating it can be, particularly when you’re trying to learn a particularly difficult topic (or perhaps it wasn’t explained very well at school, or you may have missed a few lessons). I’m passionate about tutoring because it gives students the flexibility to learn at their own pace and in their own way, which isn't always possible in the classroom.
I also recognise that different students learn in different ways. Sometimes you might struggle with maths simply because your school’s teaching style doesn’t work for you. Tutoring gives you more freedom, and I will always make sure that I am tailoring lessons to your needs, and working with you to explain material in a way you understand.

About My Lessons. A lesson will typically last for one hour. I will always speak to you at the start so that I know what you want to get out of the lessons. Have you just started a new topic which is particularly difficult or confusing and want to cover the basics? Do you just want to spend a little bit of time reinforcing your learning of a particular area? Do you want to practice more difficult, exam-style questions?
About My Approach. Everyone learns differently, so I will always tailor my approach to your needs and learning style. The main drawback of classroom learning from my experience is that teachers often can't change the pace of their lessons to fit individual students. This can often make it much more difficult to learn later topics, which might rely on the knowledge you've gained during the earlier lessons. It's always worth making sure you fully understand a topic before moving on, and I will spend as much or as little time on a topic as you want.
One of the other main disadvantages of learning in a group setting is that it can often be difficult for students to ask questions, because it might be intimidating or they feel embarassed. My own experience has been that learning maths can be a difficult, and sometimes frustrating, process. If you don't understand a topic, there will always be a reason, and I will always aim to be encouraging and supportive.
Who are my lessons for. My lessons are primarily aimed at students aged 11 to 16 who are planning to sit a Maths GCSE or other exam (e.g. Statistics GCSE, or the Additional Maths FSMQ), either now or in the future.
