About Ruth

Hello! My name is Ruth, and I am a junior at Cornell University majoring in Fashion Design Management. Alongside my passion for fashion, I excel in math and love making it an enjoyable subject for young learners.

I believe in a tailored approach to tutoring. I start by assessing each student's current knowledge, struggles, and goals, then build a customized plan to strengthen their foundation. My teaching style is interactive and engaging, encouraging students to ask questions and participate actively.

Growing up with three siblings, babysitting, and volunteering at summer schools has honed my ability to connect with kids. I am patient, organized, and clear with instructions, creating a comfortable learning environment for all!

I specialize in tutoring elementary and middle school students, helping them with basic arithmetic, fractions, pre-algebra, and other foundational math topics. My goal is to boost their confidence and academic success.

As a junior at Cornell University, I bring both academic expertise and a wealth of practical experience to my role as a math tutor for elementary and middle school students. My teaching approach is grounded in a thorough understanding of each student's current abilities and areas for improvement. Here's a deeper look into my tutoring philosophy and methods:

Teaching Method and Techniques

My teaching method begins with an initial assessment to gauge the student's knowledge, identify struggles, and understand their goals. This diagnostic approach allows me to tailor lessons that build on their existing foundations, ensuring steady and robust growth in their mathematical understanding. I am adaptable and incorporate personalized study methods to align with what works best for each student. Encouraging a lot of questions is a cornerstone of my tutoring sessions. I believe that fostering curiosity and a questioning mindset is crucial for deep learning. My demeanor is patient, calm, and playful, making learning math a fun and engaging experience.

A Typical Lesson Plan

Warm-Up: Begin with a quick review of previous lessons to reinforce retention.
Assessment: Brief diagnostic exercises to identify areas of focus.
Concept Introduction: Introduce new concepts using relatable examples and interactive methods.
Guided Practice: Work through problems together, offering step-by-step guidance.
Independent Practice: Allow the student to solve problems on their own while providing support as needed.
Review and Q&A: Recap the day's lesson and encourage the student to ask questions to clear up any doubts.
Homework Assignment: Provide additional practice problems to reinforce the lesson.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor

Growing up with three siblings and extensive experience babysitting and volunteering at summer schools has equipped me with the skills to manage and engage young learners effectively. My playful yet structured approach creates a learning environment where students feel comfortable and motivated. Additionally, my academic background at Cornell University ensures that I bring a high level of knowledge and competence to each tutoring session.

Target Audience

My lessons are designed for elementary and middle school students who are looking to improve their math skills. Whether they need help with basic arithmetic, fractions, pre-algebra, or any other foundational math topics, I am here to support their learning journey. My goal is to help each student gain confidence in their mathematical abilities and achieve academic success.

I look forward to the opportunity to help your child excel in math and develop a genuine love for the subject.
