About Daniel
Hi y'all! Name's Dan. I'm passionate about education, problem solving, and helping others achieve their goals. Tutoring and teaching is a sustainable way for me to do these passions.
I started officially tutoring back in freshman year of college where I helped Hartford (CT) high schoolers with their Algebra 2. Since then I've tutored fellow UConn students through UConn's tutoring program, students as young as 10 online through this website and others, and undergraduates at UNC-CH while completing my masters degree.
From my many sessions with students I have learned effective methods to help them achieve their goals. My goal is to get them on track to succeed and to keep them on track. That means developing not only their abilities, but also their confidence to do it on their own.
I'm also interested in building a system so I can help more students more efficiently.
I got started teaching in my freshman year of undergraduate where I was tutoring local highschoolers in algebra II. It was only for 1 semester, but just from how fulfilling that experience was, I knew I wanted to do it more and more.
I have 1+ years of online mathematics tutoring with middle school to college students from this website and others.
I have 2+ years of in-person mathematics and statistics tutoring with UConn students.
I studied graduate-level statistics and data science at a top 11 ranked program, tutored college students, and achieved my masters with a 4.0 GPA (UNC-CH).
I studied undergraduate and graduate-level statistics, mathematics, and computer science and achieved my bachelors with a 3.73 GPA (UConn).

My goal for my new students is for them to become self sufficient. I aim to teach them the skills they need to no longer need my service. You might wonder why I would have this aim. How I see it is if I can get a student to no longer need my service then I can use that time to help another student in need.
My process for getting them there is to first understand where they are and then where they want to go. This way I have a starting point and a direction. From there I come up with a personalized plan to help them achieve their goal and the goals after that. This plan is flexible and may change if it could be more effective.
If I think I can't help them I will direct them to someone or something that I think would be better. Again, I don't want to waste time and effort.
Middle school to college level from all different backgrounds and educations.
Have patience with the process but also be aware of how your knowledge/abilities are improving. If you aren't seeing improvements after a few sessions, reconsider the service.
My eldest sister's wedding. It was beautiful and I'd be lying if I said I didn't have misty eyes during the ceremony. Of course I danced my butt off at the reception.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What do you want to achieve specifically? What do you hope to gain from tutoring? Are there alternatives that would get you what you want more efficiently? Parents should also consider these.

Perfect! My 11 year old loved this experience. His tutor made him feel comfortable. The tutor is very kind and speaks in a very calm voice which helped my son open up. I highly recommend Math And Stats Tutoring! 💯

My current system ($30/hr) is for meeting my needs first so that I can continue tutoring and improve. Currently I need about $2400 a month to cover my expenses (that requires a salary of $28800 a year [average U.S. salary is about $60000 a year]). I can currently afford to tutor for 4 1-hour sessions a weekday. That means I can tutor 20 hours a week and about 80 hours a month (4 weeks). Which means I should charge $30/hr ($2400/80hr) to meet my needs.
