About Oscar

My service provides insight into all levels of classical piano performance: whether it is someone who cannot read music, or someone who needs refining of their piano performance. Playing since the age of three years old, I have garnered multiple years of competitive and performance experience and studied with over twenty teachers.

My competitive and performance experience includes performing at Carnegie Hall at age 7, two time performer at the Kennedy Center, winner of the 2019 Steinway and Sons Piano Competition Winner, Grand Prix of the International Chopin Piano Competition in Hartford, 2016 and 2018 1st Place Winner of the Asian American Music Society Piano Competition, First Place Winner Hayes School of Music Piano Competition, First Place Winner Marian Garcia International Piano Competition, Finalist in the International Hilton Head Piano Competition, Alternate in the International Junior Cliburn Competition, and multiple victories in regional NVMTA and WMTA Piano Competitions.

In 2014 I received a $10,000 scholarship from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation leading to radio appearances on Robert Seigel’s NPR show “All Things Considered,” an appearance on From the Top’s radio show, and BBC’s World Service News Day. In 2017 I was invited to be part of a collaborative project with From The Top to record a piece of music composed of multiple national anthems of foreign countries.

When I was two years old my uncle’s would bring Bolivian music CD’s and Bolivian instruments (panflute, Bolivian guitar) so I could listen to them on our old television. Without knowing how to play those instruments I would pretend to play along with them, creating random noises while the Bolivian music group would play tunes. That was when my love for music began. Through the roots of my Bolivian heritage and my mother's support, I began a journey towards competitive and performance success. I love competing and performing because it is both a private and public way of expression: private because the artist conveys their own interpretation of the piece and public because the artists performs for the audience, not for themselves. I love hearing the harmonies composers imbed into their masterworks such as Rachmaninoff or Liszt, I love hearing the unity of the piano and the orchestra in concertos- in short, I love all aspects of piano performance.

I’ve taken classes under Dr. Marjorie Lee for seven years, under Boris Slutsky of Peabody University and Yale University for two years, and taken classes with Professor Alexander Moutzkine of the Manhattan School of Music, Professor Arnaldo Cohen of the Indiana Jacobs School of Music, Professor Andre Watts, Professor Karen Taylor of the Indiana Jacobs School of Music, Professor James Litzelman, Professor Christopher Harding of the University of Michigan, Professor Bradford Gowen of the University of Maryland, Professor Dror Biran of the University of CIncinnati, Professor Michael Chertok of the University of Cincinnati, Professor Vladimir Feltsman of the State University of New York, Professor Paul Ostrovsky of the University of New York, Professor Robert Hamilton, Professor Phillip Kawin of the Manhattan School of Music, Professor Haesun Paik of the New England Conservatory, Professor Daniel Schene of Webster University, Professor Gregory Sioles of the Indiana Jacobs School of Music, Professor David Cartledge of the Indiana Jacobs School of Music, Professor Ruth Morrow of Midwestern State University, and Professor Alice Rybak.

Find a teacher tailored for your benefit. Teaching art is not about imposing ones ideas onto a student, it is about guiding them into a world of art they shall explore only with a guide, not a tyrant.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
If a student has any question or request they should not be afraid to ask no matter the subject. A teacher is meant to support and guide a student, not to intimidate or scare them.
