About Jess
We specialize in teaching bright students who struggle to learn to read, write, spell and do math in school. We use hands on, multi-sensory techniques for students from 1st grade to adulthood.
Many of our students move up 1-2 grade levels in just a few months, after making NO progress in school because they are FINALLY being taught they way they can understand!
I enjoy helping a student who has struggled in school, usually for many years, learn to read, write, spell or really understand math concepts for the first time because I know personally as a Dyslexic adult and as the mother of 3 children who learn diiferently how liberating it is to read like the other kids.
It is even more rewarding for me to watch my students physique change while observing improvement in their self-esteem, for one student it happened after just 1 day of tutoring. Today he is recieving straight A's in school!
A few years back, I had an 18 year old student, who started with me only reading on a 3rd grade and did not know how to add or subtract, let alone do any multiplication. After 19 months of working together, she was reading on a 9th grade reading level and able to do math up to pre-algebra. Made me feel amazing! Imagine how she feels now!!
Two of my four children were struggling in school, so I learned how to help them. A few mom's were seeing the amazing progress they were making and ask me to help their kids, the same way and twice, in 2 different states, my business was born.
My experience is extensive. It all began, unknowingly, when I was a child learning to read and spell. I didn't even know than that would be the foundation of being able to relate to my struggleing studetns over 30 years later.
I have since been educated as a preschool and elementary school teacher, and most improtantly, been certified to help students who have difficvulty reading, spelling and doing math, usually due to Dyslexia, Dysgraphia or Dyscalculia.

With Lexia Learenrs it is as easy as 1-2-3
1. Phone call or email conversation with parent (or another caring and concerned adult) to discuss child's needs.
2. Schedule student screening to determine if our program will help your child. We will also assess your child's phonological strength and weaknesses, reading level and provide us with necessary information of placement for your child, as well as a consultation after the screening.
3. Start tutoring and make amazing progress like never before!!
Most of our students are between 8-12, however we work with students as young as age 7, going into 1st grade and the oldest student we have helped is almost age 50.
If you or your child is bright but struggling in school, the most important thing you need to make sure your new tutor does is use an Orton-Gillingham program.
A second grader, that recently starting wotking with us, said in 1 week of tutoring her reading is already improving in school!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I am happy to provide anyone, student or not, with a list of accomadations to ask teachers to follow.

Coach Jess and her tutors are so kind, patient and understanding. We highly recommend them!
“The instruction from Lexia Learners has been critical in my child's development as an adult. As an homeschooling unschooler my teen had struggled with reading and we went to Lexia Learners to find out why this wasn't coming as easily as it did for her sister. Through testing and subsequent tutoring she has learned skills that she will use to open doors to her future.”
“I have known Jess for over 6 years.Over the years I saw how in tune she was with children & their learning styles. My daughter has dyslexia & dysgraphia I knew we needed a tutor. My daughter had met Jess several times through our homeschool learning center. She requested Jess to work with her. Jess connected with my daughter right away which for Madisyn is very important in working with someone. Madisyn made tremendous growth in working with Jess. Jess also, has helped me so much in my homeschooling journey with the experience she has.”
"We are so happy to have Jess of our educational team. My son has struggled with reading, spelling, comprehension and memory since he was 4. We found Lexia Learners about a year ago when our son was 11. He's doing so much better now and has a new found confidence, I just wish we'd found her sooner! Contact Lexia Learners to help your child, you will be so relieved you did!"
“Miss Elayne has been a true gift for Asha- she previously had a tutor she did not “click” with and so was not learning, Asha actually hated going to sessions. This is not the case with Elayne- we have really found the right fit! Elayne is kind, creative and patient with Asha. She comes up with ways to teach Asha the principles she needs help with in creative ways and Asha responds very well to her approach. When I come back to pick up Asha at the end of her sessions she often says “already?” because the time flies when she is with Elayne. We are really happy to have found Elayne and are seeing good progress in her writing and math skills.”
“Jess is a great Barton tutor as well as a wonderful dyslexic math teaching expert. It's difficult to find someone who is talented in both subjects; especially one who can teach math effectively using manipulative to dyslexic children.”
“Jess has been an instrumental tool for my daughter's growth and navigating with Dyslexia. Jess, With her everlasting smile, patience and care for my daughter she has helped her gained confidence with reading. Lexia Learners has given me the tools and confidence of pushing forward along side my daughter.”
“Our daughter was diagnosed with various disorders including dyslexia. While she's getting help during the school year, we were concerned that she would not get the support she needed during the summer to continue making progress. We were relieved when we found Lexia Learners.
Lexia provides specialized tutoring for educational difficulties that are related to dyslexia, dysgraphia, etc. This is critical as other tutoring services don't specialize in helping kids with these disorders. Our daughter is doing great in the program and it has boosted her confidence. More importantly, she is learning techniques and strategies to help her as she continues her educational journey, not just memorizing or getting through assignments.”Omi has been a good fit for Abby's needs and we feel like we are finally finding ways to help her. The new touch math approach is helpful. She is getting it :)
Jennifer that he's just automatically doing now which I love because he realizes they work for his brain. I honestly don't know what I'd do if we didn't have Lexia Learners. I tried with an online interactive website but he was so resistant, and the way Ms. Jennifer teaches him makes it so much fun for him he loves it when she comes. Other popular reading centers are not trained to teach the dyslexic mind so I'm glad I did my research and didn't waste my son's time, my money, and energy. If your child is dyslexic I would highly recommend Lexia Learners.”
Jess is wonderful! She is patient, encouraging, and very generous with her time and with sharing her teaching tools. Jess is non-judgmental and have a clear understanding of the child's limitations/strengths, and sets up the child for success. My 8yr old son had a very difficult time with simple math concepts. In just a few sessions with Jess and her Multisensorial technique, he is now able to do four digits addition/subtractions and is easily learning to do multiplication. He successfully uses his math techniques in school and his teacher is now interested in learning this approach for other children in the classroom. Prior to Jess, My son had worked with several other tutors without much progress. I highly recommend Jess to any child with any learning difficulties/differences. It's hard to find a Barton reading/Multisensorial math tutor who is as capable as Jess is.
