About Nicole
I take the time to get to know the student and work with them to see what learning style fits them the best. I have a lot of experience working with students of different ages, so I know that different methods will work with different people. I have a lot of patience and flexibility, so students I work with are encouraged to ask any questions they have with me.
Many of my friends often asked for help when it came to various math topics, and one of them suggested that I start tutoring at school. Once I did, I started to really enjoy the job, and the moment they understand the material and that light goes off is what I really enjoy.
I was a tutor throughout high school, starting in my sophomore year. Now, as a college student, I am employed through the science division at Grinnell College, meaning I have been an official tutor for nearly four years. I also took an early childhood practicum class, which gave me experience teaching with preschool children.

I ask them a few questions about how their day has been before I jump into the subject they are requesting assistance with. I find that getting a read on how they are feeling in the moment can radically alter how I approach a topic they may have difficulty with.
While I am in my second year in college, I have worked mostly with high school students and the homework they have. I have also worked with some preschool students, during my final year in high school, so that experience is also very recent.
I would recommend finding someone who is willing to do whatever it takes for you to learn the material you have some trouble with. Cooperation and communication is key; both parties have to be willing to make time for each other to make the lessons count!
Finishing out my first year of college, despite being in a virtual space, was one of the greatest accomplishments because I didn't feel like I would complete the semester to my expectations. It made me realize that I am capable of more than I know.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
See if you can walk through the problem yourself first by talking out loud. Often, I ask students what they know and to walk me through the steps they need to take. With some pointing questions, students can usually find their way through the material with ease, and little help from the teacher! It shows that you understand the material more than you think!

Details
It mainly depends on the session length, but I usually go $13/hour making each session about an hour long. I am, however, flexible with the pricing, and I can work with students on payment.
