About Cyril
I am a student going to the nation's top universities with extensive volunteer training. I am patient, careful, and incredibly effective in working with my students.
I like to see the success of my students in intangible and tangible ways: test scores and report cards are great but it's the learning moments that make my day.
I have worked as a private tutor at my high school for the past two years with my students receiving top-of-class grades on history examinations and Calculus finals. I have also volunteered as a Middle School tutor for a local vocational school called the St. James School. My student was named the Most Improved by the school as his test scores spiked 30 points on the state examinations in math and reading(I worked with him over the COVID year).
I am an incoming freshman at Harvard College with a focus on Economics and Applied Mathematics. I got a 790 on the Math II SSAT, took Multivariable Calculus this year(and received an A+ for my efforts), and was nominated Summa Cum Laude at my school. I was also the student body president of my class.

I like to ask my students what their goals are: do they want to reach the top of their class? Are they looking for a top score on an AP Exam? Do they want to compete in a math competition? Asking questions to students gives them ownership of their learning journey and allows me to get a reference on the workload I recommend to my students. After this phase(which only takes a few minutes), I like to start with work the student has done before and made mistakes in; going over a student's old work allows me to understand their processes and weed out simple errors in their thinking. Finally, I like to set goals with students such as finishing a chapter between sessions, etc. This way I have a framework for how to build my curriculum in the future.
I have worked with both high schoolers and middle schoolers but any age range can work.
I would say to find younger teachers. While most families may trust the sage wisdom of an older teacher, modern instruction requires two key traits found amongst younger teachers: technological savvy and connection with students. Younger teachers are particularly adept with newer teaching software but what makes us great is our ability to relate to our students.
I was recently invited to an event for high-performing tutors at the St. James School. I gave a quick speech about teaching my fourth-grade student. My student and I worked past our one-hour time during one session and at the end, my student told me how much help I was giving him. It really validated all the work I had done.

Cyril is the most hard-working and determined individual I have ever met. And yet he has a clear passion for helping others. Attending high school with Cyril, it was always obvious that he was the smartest in the room. But everyone also knew how kind and helpful he was. He would take hours out of his evenings to help his classmates (including myself) understand a difficult topic. He'd give up his free time to ensure that his friends were well prepared for the upcoming test. And he would never get frustrated with those he was helping. When many would have said, "how are you not understanding this?!", Cyril would say "OK, let's try to look at it from another angle." His patience is immeasurable, and his ability to create a welcoming yet challenging atmosphere makes him one of the best teachers I have ever had.
I was very pleased with the way that Cyril helped me with my term paper, both in word choice and the shaping of the overall structure of the paper. Cyril worked diligently through any question I had, and I thank him for helping me with the finishing touches on the paper. Thanks Cyril!
My tutor took the time to make sure I understood every aspect of the concepts at hand. I appreciated the level of intricacy in my tutor's explanation of concepts as well. On top of that, my tutor was a great person and cared about me as a student and my success beyond the mastery of the tutoring material. Amazing experience!
He helped me write and revise my junior year term paper, which is one of my biggest papers of high school. He provided helpful feedback on word choice and content, and his help allowed me to not just get a better grade on my paper, but become a better writer overall.

Very easy to work with. Can help understand a problem in a multitude of ways.

My standard pricing is about 45 dollars an hour, but anything is flexible. Negotiation is always fine because people always have circumstances.
