About James
I am an AVID-trained educator with an expertise in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Math Models. I have taught high school level students for almost 10 years at Travis Early College high school in the heart of Texas (Austin, TX). I have also been a sponsor for the senior class of 2018, assisting students in understading the need for balanced finiancial skills and budgeting. Recently, I worked as a supervisor and mentored students in a state program for freshaman and sophmores, the Summer Youth Empowerment Program. The fundamentals of graduating from high school, interviewing for a job, creating a resume/coverletter, and netwroking for references were a few details we elaborated on in the program.
I enjoy helping people develop the skills necessary to become independent problem solvers. Watching my students grow in knowledge and confidence in themselves, gives me a sense of accomplishment as an educator. My passion for the work I do is the oppurtunity to equip students with life readiness skills that will help them in their future endeavors, whether it be further education or a career to give back to their community. The opportunity to offer students a foundation to build upon as they prepare to enter adulthood is important to me as not many students I've encoutered are taught about what happens after high school.

Mr. Crenshaw is a very knowledgeable and patient teacher, no matter how many questions are asked. Also, his flexibility and the willingness to help is greatly appreciated!
Although this was four years ago, I will never forget how eager Brother Crenshaw was to help me. My algebra teacher wasn’t really teaching us so I had to rely on Brother Crenshaw to help me with homework. He was able to explain how to work out the problems and tell me why this goes and the rules at play, which my own teacher would not do. If I didn’t understand something the first time around, he would explain it in a new way until I understood. Along with that, he answered all of my questions and went beyond with giving examples of what wouldn’t work and what would. He took time out of his day to help me with homework questions I didn’t understand, and that really means a lot. Algebra is the base for any math going forward and he is the reason I have a good understanding as a senior in AP Calculus now.
