Find out more about Kian

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed an interest in my chosen field, which includes mathematics, physics, and chemistry, at a young age. Growing up, I found joy in solving puzzles, and exploring scientific phenomena. My interest in private tutoring emerged during my high school years when I began helping classmates understand mathematical concepts, as well as delve into the intricacies of physics and chemistry.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

Mathematics, physics, and chemistry are subjects that offer a fascinating blend of logic, creativity, and problem-solving. In physics, I enjoy discussing topics such as mechanics, electromagnetism, and thermodynamics, which provide insights into the fundamental laws governing the physical world.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Throughout my academic journey, I have been fortunate to have several inspiring teachers who have left a lasting impact on me. One teacher, in particular, stands out for his passion for physics and his ability to make the subject come alive through engaging demonstrations and real-world applications. His enthusiasm ignited my own passion for the subject and inspired me to pursue a career in science education.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

The qualities required to be a good tutor extend across all subjects and include patience, adaptability, empathy, and strong communication skills. Patience is essential when working through challenging concepts, while adaptability allows me to tailor my teaching methods to suit each student's unique learning style. Empathy enables me to understand my students' struggles and provide the support they need, while effective communication ensures clarity and understanding.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One valuable anecdote from my days at school involves a student who had always struggled with science subjects, particularly physics and chemistry. Through consistent encouragement, personalized guidance, and hands-on experiments, she gradually began to grasp difficult concepts and even developed a newfound appreciation for the subjects. Witnessing her transformation from a hesitant learner to a confident problem solver reaffirmed my belief in the power of education and mentorship.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One of the challenges I have faced in teaching science subjects is overcoming the fear of failure that many students experience. Science can be intimidating for some, leading to a lack of confidence and reluctance to engage with the material. Overcoming this barrier requires patience, encouragement, and creating a supportive learning environment where students feel safe to make mistakes and learn from them.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My particular passion lies in both teaching and the subjects of mathematics, physics, and chemistry. I find fulfillment in guiding students through their academic journey and witnessing their growth and success in these fundamental disciplines. Moreover, I am deeply fascinated by the beauty and complexity of science and its applications in various fields, from technology and engineering to medicine and beyond.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions) ?

What makes me a Superprof is my dedication to providing high-quality education and fostering a supportive learning environment for my students across multiple subjects. I prioritise understanding their individual needs and adapting my teaching approach accordingly, ensuring that they not only succeed academically but also develop a genuine passion for learning and discovery.
