About Sabrina
I graduated summa cum laude from the NC State University/University of North Carolina Chapel Hill joint department of biomedical engineering with a Bachelor’s of Science in biomedical and health sciences engineering in May 2020, and will be starting my masters program in chemical engineering next year. I have experience with tissue engineering laboratory research, customer service work, and freelance STEM tutoring.

Before college, I considered myself to be a “math hater,” and through my journey to becoming an engineer and researcher, I’ve learned that a lot of the difficulties students have with math and other “left brain” topics derive from the fact that the classroom methods of teaching STEM topics aren’t always compatible with the student’s learning style. I began freelance tutoring two years ago, and my interest in helping students overcome their intimidation and frustration with math and science has developed into a passion. I believe in a thorough “whole picture” approach to teaching, where the context and applications of concepts are not left for future coursework but rather incorporated into the foundation: questions are encouraged, interdisciplinary explanations are offered and memorization is minimized. My goal is for my students to leave each session with a smile on their faces—perhaps a tall order for STEM lessons, but more than anything I love a good challenge!
