About Emma
- What kind of experience do you have? I am a full time musician, in high demand performing freelance on the harp all over the North of England. Teaching harp is also a large part of my career. I have taught privately and in local schools over the years. Many of my pupils have stayed with me for many years, progressing very well and some have gone on to become career musicians themselves, whilst others have kept their playing going for the enjoyment and personal development that this brings. - Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate? Yes. - Where and with whom did you train? Originally tutored on the harp by Dorothy Gilbertson for 11 years from age 8 -19. Went on to further study with Frank Sternfeld while I was attending York University. Certificate of Teaching ABRSM in Manchester with Helen Arnold and Nigel Mainard. Piano with Heather Hammond. I also trained with Christina Tourin from 2006-8 on the International Harp Therapy Program. - Do you belong to any professional organisations? ISM

I love teaching the harp and piano ages from around 7 to adult. I use a variety of methods and styles, including classical, contemporary, pop, jazz and folk music. - Which subject(s) do you teach? Harp (pedal and lever), Piano. - Tell me about your qualifications. BA (Hons) University of York. Certified instrumental tutor (ABRSM harp) Grade 8 Harp ABRSM Grade 8 Piano Trinity Guildhall Grade 6 Theory ABRSM - How much do you charge? £16 per 30 minute lesson - Where do you teach? Pupils come to my home in central York for lessons. - When are you available? Monday - Saturday pm - Which ages and levels do you teach? It is never too late to begin music lessons. My current pupils range is age from 7 to adult. Complete beginners to grade 8 on the harp and grade 6 on the piano. Whilst I am able to enter pupils for exams, this is entirely optional. - Describe your arrangements for online tutoring. I am experienced teaching online and use Zoom.

Learning the harp has been a wish of mine for many years and I'm delighted to have found Emma. As well as a most accomplished harpist, she is an excellent (and very patient) teacher who has helped me fulfill my dream of playing this beautiful instrument. I'm a great believer in music as a therapy, and Emma, with her wealth of experience and compassionate nature brings great soothing with her wonderful music.
I'm 71- and I've never played a keyboard instrument, so learning to make my hands coordinate with each other is sometimes a bit of a struggle; when I think about the right hand, the left goes walkies. Or vice versa. Emma's very gentle and encouraging, very positive, very clear about what she's trying to teach, and very willing to let me head towards the musical styles that I enjoy. Ceylon has grown in confidence playing the Harp and the Piano and now
listens to other tunes and confidently replays (after working out the notes
etc) - the decision to allow Ceylon's wish to learn both instruments was
