About Katherine
Hi, I'm Katherine. I have over 11 years' tutoring experience, plus 4 years tutoring whilst in high school and at Brown University – a total of 15 years.
I regularly tutor at GCSE, AS and A-levels in various subjects ranging from English, Maths, Business Studies, Biology, History, Geography, Art History, and Politics for different exam boards from AQA to OCR and EdExcel. I have tutored the IB across the curriculum (both Standard and Higher Level) - in IB English, Maths, Biology, Geography, and Business Management.
I also tutor at degree and postgraduate level – Business, Law, and English Literature. I have extensive experience teaching English to both school-age and adult students. I have travelled to 35 countries and worked in seven, so I have plenty of experiences to share.
I have also taught SAT / PSAT / SSAT and ACT (American Entrance Exams) and Law tuition (GDL, LPC, LLM and LLB levels) – as I was a Fellow in Law at King’s College London and a qualified solicitor.
I'm passionate about teaching. Encouraging excellence in my students rests on a few key principles, from instilling in them a “can-do” attitude; praising their progress and letting them know it is okay to make mistakes; and setting them a series of manageable tasks to boost their confidence.
When teaching the students I would encourage them to ask questions – loads of them. Inquisitive students are a delight to teach because this means that the student is thinking and processing the information.
In my tutoring I create a nurturing and stimulating environment in which the students can prepare for their exams and learn and grow to their full potential.
I was educated in America (Brown University, BA English and American Literature magna cum laude, and Georgetown University, Master of Laws in International Legal Studies) and the UK (MSt in Creative Writing, Keble College, Oxford, and MA Early Modern History, King's College London). I also read for a D.Phil in Modern History at St Edmund Hall, Oxford.
My experience ranges from tutoring students age 5 and up to postgraduates / mature students. Apart from hourly tuition, I've done residential placements in Monaco, the South of France, and Austria and general after-school support. I’m looking forward to engaging my students in topics that I love!
