About Hunter
I am currently a 4th year undergraduate math teaching assistant at the Georgia Institute of Technology. I have taken more than 18 hours of graduate mathematics courses. I have TA'd all levels of calculus, including multivariable calculus, and I have TA'd linear algebra.
Moreover, I have about a year and a half of private math tutoring experience.
I teach mathematics on a daily basis.
Some previous student comments:
"Hunter was great at explaining concepts and working out problems and showing all the steps. He also always made himself available and was very helpful in office hours and took the time to make sure you understood what was going on."
"Hunter made concepts that were very confusing simpler, and he took time to make sure we understood an idea before moving on. He also took time out of his schedule to help me when I couldn't go to office hours as well as scheduling extra review sessions."
"Hunter was very respectful towards the students and didn’t make anyone feel badly if they did not understand the material."
"He's a fun guy who makes math more bearable for those who don't like math too much. Also, he baked us cookies on test days which is definitely an extra plus. Generally, he's nice and funny when he needs to be, and collected when he's teaching."
"Approachable, knowledgeable, enthusiastic."
"Super nice guy, funny, very accessible and helpful, positive, and obviously knew his stuff."
"Hunter was always available, kind, and helpful whenever I needed assistance on anything. He always replied immediately to my emails and explained concepts in various ways if I did not understand them. He is a great TA and cares a great deal for his students and their success."
"Really enjoyed having Hunter. Favorite parts were his brief but tantalizing tangents about related concepts that we didn't have to know. Convinced me to go for a math minor."

It is common in our culture to talk about math as some difficult subject in which only "smart people" excel. People will proudly brag about being terrible at math! Can you imagine if someone said the same of reading?!
Math can be learned just as reading can be learned. It requires hard work and lots of practice.
The problem with the way most mathematics is taught these days is that people are taught to solve problems -- not to understand them.
I thus aim my tutoring at understanding problems, solutions, ideas, etc. Once a student understands a problem, then he or she can solve it. Hence, my students learn to think instead of regurgitate.
I also try to introduce students to a more sophisticated approach to solving problems, which, although may not make too much of a difference with regards to test results, will undoubtedly provide the student with a much stronger foundation in mathematics as a whole.
I teach at a high level while presenting the material in an understandable fashion. If a student works hard, I can guarantee a strong understanding of mathematics, a 5 on the AP Calculus exams, and an A in their current math class.
