I am a math teacher that have taught middle, high, college students. My students have passed the end of course tests. I have also tutored these students. My number of students in my classes have been as large as 30.

My philosophy of education is founded on the concepts of essentialism and progressivism. Essentialism is a philosophy based on the assumption that students should learn the basic facts regarding the social and the physical world. Progressivism is a philosophy developed by John Newton based on the assumption that all learning is active, that learning is intellectual, social, and emotional, and that curriculum should begin with the child’s interests and experiences. (Because Teaching Matters pg. 117). I believe that everyone should be taught the basic facts of reading, writing, and arithmetic. Students need these skills to in order to survive in the real world. I also believe that education should be active. The more student participate in their education the better they become in their problem solving skills.
