About Don
I have been teaching and / or tutoring for more than 20 years. In my professional life I was a computer consultant. The work I preformed included the design and development of computer systems, the training of staff in programming fundamentals, and problem resolution.
I have spent the last few years woking with students in middle school through high school, tutoring basic mathematics and algebra. It is a pleasure to work with a student and all of a sudden see the "light bulb" go on when after struggling with a topic, understand it, and move on to the next one.
One of the most pleasurable parts of tutoring is when a student having difficulty with their school work shows me an increase in their grades.

The approach to learning algebra and other topics in mathematics is not one size fits all. Above all else, it takes patience on the part of the tutor to be able to provide guidance that is understandable to students. When the student fails to understand a given solution or method, to try a different solution or method until the topic is mastered.
I believe in explaining a topic, work through examples, and then provide the student with additional examples to allow then to show their understanding of the topic.
I do not do a student's homework, but will provide guidance and examples showing the steps needed to solve the homework questions. I review homework to ensure it correctness, point out where errors have been made, and work with the student to better understand the principles involved.
