About Shania
Passionate about Hispanic culture, linguistics, and student success, I pride myself on my ability to create a learning environment that fosters safety and inclusivity. Students will be able to read, write, and understand spoken Spanish during their FIRST lesson with me! By being given a small set of core vocabulary alongside terms that are similar to English words, students can participate in all aspects of language learning right off the bat. As the course progresses the students vocabulary range will become wider and wider allowing for more complex use of the language. My teaching style is playful but informative and the silly stories we will read and create will help the things you learn truly stick to your brain. Spanish class will be the most exciting part of your week and I guarantee you that you will leave each lesson wanting more. Let's have some fun and get to work!

As a foreign language instructor, I utilize two primary teaching methodologies: Comprehensible Input (CI) and Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Story-Telling (TPRS). CI utilizes cognates, or words that are very similar to their English translation, along with a very small set of vocabulary terms to allow learners to understand the language in real-world context.
For example, test out the scenario below!
VOCAB: tío = uncle; come = eats
Example Sentence: Mi tío come chocolate.
You can assume the word "mi" means "my" and "chocolate" = "chocolate" and wa-lah! You're reading in Spanish! Your uncle DOES eat chocolate, great job!!
Within a typical unit, you will be given 3-4 core vocabulary terms or phrases. We will then work together to understand and use these terms in context and will even create our own stories together ALL in Spanish!
