About Kai Ning
Apart from teaching, Kai is actively preparing and available for gigs. The experiences playing for churches, premiering new piano music, collaborating with vocalists and instrumentalists, having taken jazz improv classes has opened up a whole new dimension in piano teaching - Other than fostering reliable and ergonomic piano technique through Taubman's method, Kai stood by "making music" as the greatest fundamental and motivation for someone to learn. Kai is fearful of uninspiring, mundane, "you need to practice more" lessons, she thrives at finding different solutions to best help students, breaking down difficult concepts to something students can easily comprehend, encouraging students to own their responsibility eventually.

Kai believes music making during lessons is the most effective way to learn, students will quickly pick up sight-reading skills, shaping musical phrases, listening for dynamic changes all by playing duets with her. She begins lessons with Czerny, Beyer, Finger Exercises as warm-up & improves piano touch as students can play along while she demonstrates. Lessons are typically high in energy with a lot of imagery, gamification when explanations of concepts (music theory) are involved. Improvisation is encouraged through aural training - playing by ear is explored. As an experienced tutor who has overseen more than 500 students aging from 2 to adults in 14 years of teaching in individual as well as group settings, Kai could easily put herself in the shoes of her students and instead of "TEACHING" as a teacher, she wants students to lead to reinforce a newly taught concept/technique. Kai's biggest goal is to provide the best support to students who love to play the piano as a peer, friend, teacher, role model. Kai is specialized in teaching total beginners - advanced students, especially for those who are seeking to audition for colleges, preparing for exams and competitions.
