About Okasha

I’m looking to tutor individuals in year 10 or 11 interested in achieving a competitive edge in their GCSE subjects in order to maximise their chances of success in the years following. Currently, I’m a year 12 student studying mathematics, further mathematics, physics and economics at A-level in Sixth Form. As you may have guessed, my year 11 GCSE examinations are still fresh in my memory, and I’m eager to pass on the most important lessons I know based on my first-hand experience. Below you will find a list of subjects that I’m excited to teach, complete with exam board information and the grades that I achieved on them during the summer of 2018.

Edexcel Mathematics 9-1 (Achieved grade 9)

AQA Physics 9-1 (Achieved grade 9)

AQA Biology 9-1 (Achieved grade 9)

AQA Chemistry 9-1 (Achieved grade 8)

Edexcel English Literature/Language 9-1 (Achieved grade 8 in both Lit & Lang)

I believe that my tutoring will truly prove valuable to students in comparison to other tutoring options because I have developed an intimate understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the specifications, which means that I know from experience what things us students find most confusing or unclear and how to properly approach them in order to obtain a deep understanding of the subjects. Since starting year 12, I’ve been assisting my year 11 maths teachers with running their lessons, as well as helping them mark mock papers. As a result, I have decent experience with teaching year 11 students about areas they’re unsure about and with marking papers with constructive feedback.

At the moment, I'm a member of the Engineering Education Scheme (EES) working on behalf of BP with a select few of my physics peers. Also, I'm enrolled in the Year 12 Problem Solving Course 2018/19 for mathematics. Both of these courses have given me extra-curricular experience in physics and maths, which I'm extremely grateful for because of how much I respect these fields. This experience translates to teaching capability because of the strategies I've picked up in the pursuit of time-efficient comprehension.

My plan involves providing individuals with what I wish I had as a GCSE student: A detailed yet simple explanation and run-through of GCSE material and the opportunity to attempt and receive feedback on past paper questions, encouragement to think critically and to pursue knowledge beyond the simple acceptance of arbitrary facts, a guide on how to positively cultivate a learning mind-set that results in both success and enjoyment, as well as learning & revision strategies that can work with and around a normal teenage life.

It’s certainly true that there’s immense pleasure to be had in properly understanding and appreciating the nuances of mathematical concepts, the beauty in biological systems, the hidden meaning behind complex poetry etc. However, teachers often risk alienating their students by bombarding them with information without providing the necessary support required for students to properly digest it. This is one of the areas which I will focus heavily on; comprehension is absolutely vital to success during Key Stage 4, which is a beautiful coincidence because it has the capability of being the most enjoyable part of the academic experience if the learning environment is properly suited for it, which I intend to ensure.

I believe that the most important strategy that I encountered during my GCSE studies was the utilisation of the idea of first principles; all of the complexities of maths & science at this level of academia are predicated upon some basic axioms or truths. These truths go down to ideas as simple as 2+2=4, and understanding the logical path from these axioms to the seemingly complex concepts faced in GCSE is what ensured my performance during my exams. This is merely an example of the type of learning mindset which I'm eager to teach, and I would be delighted to be able to one day say that I helped students pursue their dreams and crush their exams.
