About Alice
I am Alice, a 21 year old student from Northern Italy. Back in my home town, I attended a high school that gave me the oportunity to become fond of different areas of knowledge spanning through Classics, Literature, Natural Sciences and more. After completing work experience at the local hospital, I understood that the path of Health Studies was the right one for me. At the age of 18, after my finals, I then moved to England to start studying Biomedical Sciences at Durham University. I have now completed my course and am about to start a Master’s in Public Health at Edinburgh University.
As you can probably tell already, I love to get involved and discover new places and cultures. Both in my studies and in life, my motivation is driven by a strong attitude towards helping others and this is why I think tutoring is the right activity for me. I like to use my academic ability to contribute to someone else’s success when I can… and as a student, a bit of pocket money is always helpful! In a nutshell, I think my care for others, my flexibility and my patience, which I gained from my long student experience, are the qualities that can make me a pretty good tutor!

For a few years now I have been tutoring students in different subjects and with different needs (10 to 17 year olds, mainly in Maths and English), which has taught me that there isn’t one method that works for everyone. It is really important for me to follow a student over time and understand what works best for them.
In general, I find schemes and mind maps really useful: in my experience, writing facts down on paper is essential for memorising. I also believe that any concept, even the hardest one, can be broken down into smaller pieces or presented in a different way to be made a easier and understandable. I am keen to re-use my old notes and maps or to make new ones myself outside the lesson space, then share them with the student so they can use these for revision alongside their textbook and other sources.
During my school and University years I have experimented many studying techniques (and, if I got this far, I believe they do work!): I am happy to share my tips with my students, even the silliest ones… there is no limit to creativity when learning!
Finally, I believe that most students fail to succeed because of a lack in motivation! As a very curious person, I am keen to transmit my enthusiasm to the students: for example, even the most boring maths rule has an amazing out come in nature! And you can’t imagine how many opirtunities open up to you once you are able to speak a foreign language!
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I first met Alice at Durham University and experienced first hand her welcoming and friendly personality. Throughout university our friendship blossomed, and I was struck throughout by her compassionate and warm nature.
Widely popular and universally liked, Alice showed a level of care and regard I have seen in very few other people. She would regularly go the extra mile to offer support and guidance, and was resolutely selfless even in the most stressful and difficult periods of university. More than anything else, Alice was always reliable in your time of need, and I’m sure that this attitude will serve her exceptionally well in delivering for her tutees.
It is because of this that I can wholeheartedly recommend Alice as a tutor.View more recommendations
