About Lindsey
As a self-proclaimed “not a math person” for most of my life when given the opportunity to teach Algebra as my foot in the door to the school my children went to, I took it. I relearned Algebra and literally taught myself every lesson the day before I taught it to my students. I was determined to prove myself, and I did with an almost unheard of 100% pass rate for the state test my first year teaching and for the next 3 years. My fifth year brought my first student to fail the test but he was a student who never came to school and missed every bit of review so there’s only so much one can do with that. If you want it, and are willing to put in the work, I genuinely believe you can get it. I believe the “struggle bus” is where learning takes place best so we embrace it rather than get frustrated with it.

I don’t assume a student learned and retained previous skills from previous math classes. I am willing to go as far back as the most basic building blocks of a lesson, if necessary, before proceeding with a lesson. I work examples but it’s important for students to work problems themselves with guidance as well.
