About Hannah
I am a public health major, a cross country/Track&Field athlete, and a student-athlete tutor at the University of California, Irvine. I have tutored for the past two years at the UCI Athletics Department. This experience has helped me quickly adjust my teaching methods to fit each student’s learning style. As a current student, I easily relate to those I tutor. I am aware of external factors affecting students and I find a way to help them persevere and focus on their academic goals.

I begin each session by building a relationship of trust and non-judgement. I believe the best way to help someone is to work with them as a mentor and not a dictator. Once I understand who they are and where they are struggling, I ask what they under and what they don’t understand about the subject. After this assessment, I ask them what their goal is so that I can prepare tutoring plan with them. I work with the student to creat a study plan and set realistic goals for them to work on independently. I use the sessions I have with them to review difficult material and share my tips and tricks for navigating the course. I also give them a degree of responsibility by setting deadlines for them to complete parts of their course. Tutoring is a two way road in which both the tutor and student have to work together. If something isn’t working, I use a different method of teaching that better fits a students learning style.
