About Yan Shin
Hello, I’m Yan, a passionate violin and piano teacher with over 5 years of teaching experience. I began learning piano at the age of 5, and picked up the violin at 6. My love for the violin truly deepened during my time in school, where I was actively involved in the ensemble, took on the role of conductor, and participated in several performances and competitions. I hold ABRSM Grade 8 certifications in violin, piano, and music theory, and earned my Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Edinburgh in 2019.

Currently, I offer face-to-face lessons in the comfort of students’ homes. Online theory lessons can also be arranged if preferred.
Who I teach?
I teach students of all ages and levels—whether they’re preparing for graded exams, aiming to push their musical boundaries, or simply looking to enjoy music as a lifelong hobby. I believe in tailoring each lesson to suit the student’s unique goals, strengths, and learning pace, ensuring that they feel both supported and inspired throughout their musical journey.
My teaching philosophy:
Rooted in the belief that music is not just about perfection, but about growth—with patience, consistency, and love. Although mostly classically-trained, I encourage creative expression and free play, hoping to help students view their instrument not just as a technical challenge, but as a powerful tool for personal expression.
