About Heather
Hello, I’m Heather! I have spent more than twenty-five years in education as a mathematics teacher, instructional coach, curriculum specialist, and school administrator, and I still genuinely love helping students make sense of math. Over the years, I have worked with students across many levels, from those who feel completely overwhelmed by math to those enrolled in advanced courses such as AP and IB.
I am also a parent, which gives me an added perspective when working with students and families. I understand how school can feel from every side: as a teacher, as an administrator, and as a parent trying to support a child through academic pressure, busy schedules, and moments of frustration. Because of that, I try to make tutoring feel calm, encouraging, and productive rather than stressful.
What I enjoy most is helping students reach the point where something that once felt confusing suddenly becomes manageable. Many students carry the belief that they are “not math people,” and I enjoy helping them challenge that idea by building understanding step by step and giving them space to think without pressure.
My background includes teaching in both the United States and international schools, leading district mathematics work, designing digital curriculum, and supporting teachers in improving instruction. That broad experience helps me quickly recognize where a student is getting stuck and adjust lessons in a way that fits how they learn best.
I work with middle school, high school, and college-prep students in courses such as pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, algebra 2, integrated math, and statistics, as well as SAT, ACT, AP, and IB support.
I believe tutoring should strengthen both skill and confidence, because students often do better when they begin to trust their own thinking.

I approach tutoring by first understanding how a student is thinking, not just whether an answer is right or wrong. In mathematics, students often struggle because of a gap in understanding that has built over time, so I focus on identifying where that gap begins and helping them rebuild confidence from there. My teaching style is calm, interactive, and responsive. I ask students to explain their thinking, talk through strategies aloud, and make connections between concepts so they are learning how math works rather than memorizing isolated steps.
A typical lesson begins with a quick check-in on current assignments, recent quizzes, or specific areas of difficulty. From there, I model a concept clearly, guide the student through examples, and gradually release responsibility so they can solve problems independently while explaining their reasoning. I adjust pacing carefully depending on how quickly a student processes new ideas, because strong learning happens when students have time to think.
What sets me apart is that I bring more than twenty-five years of experience as a mathematics teacher, instructional coach, curriculum specialist, and school administrator. I understand how math develops across grade levels, which helps me quickly recognize why a student may be struggling and how to address it efficiently. I also know how to make students feel comfortable asking questions, even when they are frustrated or embarrassed.
My lessons are designed for middle school, high school, and college-prep mathematics, including pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, integrated math, algebra 2, and statistics. I also support students preparing for assessments such as SAT, ACT, AP, and IB coursework.
