About Marilyn
I have a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri in journalism and a master's in journalism from Northwestern University. In addition, I hold a master's degree in education from American University. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, working out, gardening and reading.

My goal is always to try and incorporate a student's interests into the learning process. For example, if a student is struggling to read because he or she has a limited vocabulary, I would create exercises that include the names of their favorite musical artists or sports stars, etc., in a vocabulary assignment. Also, I include humor in my teaching, whether remote or in person. If a student laughs, that means he or she is relaxed. A relaxed brain is ready to learn. What sets me apart as a tutor is my wide range of professional experiences. I have worked with a broad cross section of people, have traveled to more than half the states in the union and reading is my passion. I have taught elementary through college level students.
