Students should take a lesson with me because I provide structured, individualized instruction designed to help every learner feel confident and capable. As a graduate of University of Saint Joseph with a major in Special Education, I use an explicit and systematic approach to teaching. This means I clearly model skills, guide students step-by-step, and gradually release responsibility as they build independence.
I understand that large assignments can feel overwhelming, so I break (or “chunk”) bigger tasks into smaller, manageable sections. This helps students feel successful along the way and see that their goals are both realistic and obtainable.
I create a welcoming and friendly environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and taking academic risks. I also take time to learn about each student’s prior knowledge and experiences with a topic so I can connect new material to what they already know.
To support focus and productivity, I prefer working in a quiet setting with minimal distractions, allowing students the time and space they need to concentrate. I incorporate visual strategies and hands-on activities whenever possible to keep lessons engaging and interactive.
At the end of each lesson, I conduct an informal assessment to check for understanding and ensure learning objectives were met. We also reflect on how the skills learned can be applied in other classes and preview what we will review or build on in the following week.
