About Amelia
I am an incoming undergrad studying Biology at Caltech. I attended Harvard-Westlake High School. I am an experienced tutor on Schoolhouse.World in a variety of subjects and am ranked in the top 5% in all categories. I was ranked in the top 50 USA Biology Olympiad competitors nationwide last year. I have many useful and self-made resources and up-to-date guidance for this competition, as well as experience creating high-quality mock USABO questions.
Outside of STEM, I have also published poetry and essays in magazines and on websites, and I have competed in a State Speech competition. I love writing and reading. My experience with my own immigrant parents also helped me learn how to teach ESL. I can also help with conversational Mandarin.

While I have extensive experience in single-session tutoring on a specific problem set or question the student has, I have also designed my own curriculum for many students, on Schoolhouse.World resulting in extremely personalized and effective experiences.
Outside of formal education, I have a variety of interesting experiences, from a job managing wild rattlesnakes and pulling fish out of ponds, to building a genetics lab inside my garage and doing research there on fungi and plants, to discovering and describing five new species of sea slugs. I can offer unique perspectives and educational strategies. The best way to learn is to connect the subject matter to one's daily experience; however, I aim to help students naturally use scientific problem-solving and concepts in all aspects of their lives.
