About Connor P
I am a dedicated science educator and tutor with a strong passion for helping students understand and succeed in science. I am currently completing a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in Secondary Education at Appalachian State University, where I have developed both strong content knowledge and effective teaching strategies for working with students at a variety of levels.
Through my experience as a student teacher and academic mentor, I have worked with many students to break down complex scientific concepts into clear, manageable steps. I believe every student can learn science when it is explained in a way that makes sense to them, and I strive to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and building confidence in their abilities.
My background in biology, genetics, chemistry, and physics allows me to support students across multiple areas of science, while my training in education helps me tailor explanations to each student’s learning style. I focus on helping students not only improve their grades, but also develop the skills and confidence they need to think critically and solve problems independently.
Above all, I value patience, professionalism, and encouragement in every tutoring session, and I am committed to helping each student reach their full academic potential.

My approach as a tutor centers on helping students truly understand concepts rather than simply memorizing information. As a future secondary science educator and experienced academic mentor, I focus on breaking complex ideas into manageable steps while encouraging students to think critically and build confidence in their abilities.
Teaching Method and Techniques
I use a student-centered approach that emphasizes active learning, questioning, and real-world connections. Rather than lecturing, I guide students through concepts using examples, diagrams, and step-by-step problem solving. I frequently use strategies such as think-aloud explanations, guided practice, and scaffolded questions to help students develop their own reasoning skills. I also adapt my approach based on the student’s learning style, whether they benefit most from visual explanations, practice problems, or discussion.
A Typical Lesson Plan
A typical session begins with a short check-in to identify the concepts the student is struggling with or wants to review. From there, we briefly review key ideas and clarify misconceptions. Next, I model how to solve problems or approach the topic step-by-step. Students then practice with guided support before attempting similar problems independently. At the end of the session, we summarize the main takeaways and discuss strategies they can use when studying or completing assignments on their own.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
What sets me apart is my background in science education and my focus on helping students build lasting understanding. I combine strong content knowledge in biology, chemistry, physics, and general science with effective teaching strategies used in modern classrooms. I am patient, encouraging, and committed to meeting students where they are academically. My goal is not only to help students succeed on assignments and exams, but also to help them develop confidence and curiosity about learning.
Who the Lessons Are For
My lessons are designed for middle school, high school, and early college students who need support in science courses. I specialize in subjects such as biology, genetics, chemistry, and physics, as well as general science and scientific problem solving. I also support students preparing for exams, working through challenging homework, or strengthening foundational science skills.
