About Hongshi
I started learning Chinese Chess (Xiangqi) in childhood and have continued studying and competing for many years.
I have won university-level Xiangqi competitions and have extensive experience in competitive play. I have also trained and supported university Xiangqi players and team members, with a focus on practical improvement and tournament preparation.
Besides Xiangqi, I have a strong background in mathematics and engineering and am currently pursuing doctoral-level study. This helps me analyze positions systematically and explain complicated ideas in a clear and logical way.
My strength is competitive Xiangqi. I am especially confident in calculation, tactical judgment, positional analysis and post-game review. I enjoy helping students understand the reasoning behind each move and gradually develop their own independent decision-making ability.
I can teach in both Mandarin Chinese and English.

My lessons are personalised according to each student’s level, goals and playing style. I focus on helping students truly understand Xiangqi rather than simply memorising openings.
For beginners, I teach basic principles, tactical patterns and good thinking habits. For intermediate and competitive players, lessons focus more on calculation, positional judgement, opening preparation, middlegame planning, endgames and tournament strategy.
A typical lesson may include game review, tactical exercises, calculation training, practice games and detailed post-game analysis. I also help students identify recurring mistakes and build a more systematic way of thinking.
My teaching style is analytical and structured. With my strong mathematics and engineering background, I explain positions logically and encourage students to compare candidate moves, calculate variations and understand why one move is better than another.
Lessons are suitable for children, teenagers and university students, from beginner level to competitive tournament preparation.
