About Sophie
Hi! I'm Sophie, a recent graduate from the Software Engineering program at the University of Waterloo. I've always been very passionate about mathematics, having attended the TOPS (Talented Offerings for Programs in the Sciences) program during high school with a 98% average. I received offers from all engineering, mathematics, and computer science programs I applied to in Canada, including Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Waterloo, Engineering Science at UofT, and Computer Science at UBC.
Outside of school, I love to travel. I've worked 6 different internships as a Software Engineer, leading me to live in places like Vancouver and New York City. I spent a semester abroad in Madrid when I traveled all over Europe, and I just got back from a tour across Asia! I also love drawing, reading, and trying out new recipes :)

Looking back on my academic journey, I realized how important a strong foundation in mathematics was to my success in engineering and university-level courses. This inspired me to help students build confidence in math, strengthen their fundamentals, and develop effective problem-solving skills.
I offer personalized online tutoring for middle and high school students, focusing on class material, homework support, test preparation, and problem-solving skills. My teaching approach focuses on clear explanations, step-by-step problem solving, and helping students understand concepts rather than memorize procedures. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to help them become independent learners who feel confident tackling new challenges.
In addition to math tutoring, I can offer guidance on course selection, university applications, and preparing for competitive programs such as engineering and computer science.
