About Jacob
I have a bachelor's degree from the University of Washington in Spanish and will soon have a Master of Education degree in Language, Literacy, and Culture. My passion for education came from volunteer work after COVID-19 with English as a Second Language through Seattle Central College. I talked to them about books they were reading, essays they were writing, and worked through vocabulary and grammar mistakes that may have been made. Primarily, I believe these mistakes that people make are what makes education as marvelous as it is. After my first quarter, I did volunteer work with Casa de la Raza in Seattle. I realized that this was my future career and went back to school for my Spanish degree. Teaching Spanish and English as a Second Language is my passion. So much so, I have dedicated a significant amount of my time into it. This is my career - and what matters most to me is the success of my students.

I use a variety of methods depending on the student's current understanding of the language. For this reason, I allow my methods to evolve from grammar/vocab to a more cultural/historical approach.
Lesson plans involve a 5-minute warm-up, 45-50 minutes focusing on the relevant material. After this, I use 5 minutes to cool-off and discuss future appointments.
What sets me apart as a tutor is that I have received the same instruction in Spanish and Second Language Learning, so I know what approaches work for certain people. I acknowledge that teaching is a very complex task and that the focus should always remain on the student.
My lessons are for those in High School, Community Colleges or certain university classes, as well as those who simply wish to expand their horizons by learning a second language.
