About Rayaan
I'm a 20-year-old student at the University of Toronto. I am Pakistani by origin, but was born and raised in Senegal. As a result, I speak 5 languages: English, French, Urdu, Hindi, and Wolof, with reading and writing skills in Arabic. I grew up with 4 younger sisters in the house, and I taught English for a while. I'm hoping to bring those skills to other children as well.

I believe the process of learning a language should come primarily from first understanding how to speak it conversationally. If the student and I speak a similar language, I usually start by talking in our mutual language and gradually move them towards English so that they get a more balanced and nuanced understanding of the language. Rather than throwing them directly into literature, I first understand the student and assess their level before creating a learning plan for them, which includes reading, writing, and comprehension.
