About Shane
I have a PhD in medieval history (specifically Vikings) and I have written a book and various articles on the topic. I have lectured and tutored at universities, and given talks at high schools and primary schools. I have also taken individual and small group sessions in English at a Launceston primary school, and I have also privately tutored primary, high school and university students in English, History, and study skills.

My teaching method firstly involves finding out what the student (and parent/s) want to achieve to ensure that there is no confusion over expectations. I then find out what the student is interested in so that the lessons can be tailored to the student - people will always learn better when they enjoy what they are doing. I also try to include some fun activities to help consolidate learning, such as word-finds and unscrambling words. For younger students who are struggling, I have been trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach and this may help in their spelling choices.
